Financial Statement Audits

Financial Statement (FS) audits are essential for meeting external requirements set by banks, municipal markets, states, grantors, or equity interests. They can also be requested by internal ownership or board mandates. As the highest level of attest assurance, audited FS generally follow Governmental Accounting Standards or Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

At MDA, we perform regular audits for for-profit companies, nonprofit organizations, and government entities. Our audits include comprehensive audit reports and financial statements, accompanied by detailed note disclosures explaining the entity’s accounting policies and the information presented. Our goal is to ensure that the financial information is “presented fairly, in all material respects.”

Financial Statement Reviews & Compilations

Our Financial Statement Reviews and Compilations offer levels of service lower than an audit, providing different degrees of assurance:

Reviewed Financial Statements: These provide limited assurance based on inquiries and analytical procedures. Reviews are often sufficient for banks or state licensure boards. We assist clients in preparing these financial statements to meet necessary standards.

Compiled Financial Statements: These provide no assurance on the financial information and are based on the data provided by the client. Compiled FS are often accepted by banks and state licensure boards and typically include financial statements without detailed note disclosures. We assist in preparing these statements to present a clear financial picture.

Financial Statement Preparation

Financial Statement Preparation is a distinct service where we prepare financial statements for the client entity without providing audit, review, or compilation services. This service involves preparing FS in a specific format required by third parties or other auditors, ensuring they are ready for further auditing or review. This service provides no assurance, focusing solely on accurate financial statement preparation.

Employee Benefit Plan Audits

Employee Benefit Plan (EBP) audits are specialized and heavily regulated audits required for plans with generally 100 or more account balances at the start of the plan year. Governed by the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), these audits ensure compliance with the Plan Document and fiduciary responsibilities. We audit to verify that deferral and contribution transactions are timely and in accordance with participant elections and plan policies. Limited scope audits are also available, with custodians or trustees certifying transaction accuracy.

Agreed Upon Procedures

Agreed Upon Procedures (AUPs) are tailored to meet specific client or third-party requests, providing results of testing or procedures applied on particular financial information or processes. This flexible service is ideal for nonprofits or other entities needing targeted testing or procedures performed on financial controls without the requirement for audited FS. Our AUPs are customized to address your specific concerns and requirements, ensuring that you receive the results needed.
